Bio:

Life long Trek fan since I was a small child started with TOS.  I got started writing Star Trek almost 10 years ago doing pbem (play by email) rpgs.  After getting burnt out with that, I took a break.  I realized that while I did not care for the politics that came with rpg's, I did miss writing.  It's taking me some time to find what I want to write about, but something's coming.

I agree. I like where this is going. It'll be interesting to see how the Romulans will figure into this going forward.

Summary: Star Trek: The Lady and the Sword" (formerly titled, "Steel-Edged Grace") is a TOS-era story centered on the first female C.O. of a Constitution-class starship. Captain Grace McAfee was first runner-up to command the USS Enterprise, losing out to James T. Kirk. Her consolation prize was command of the USS Ranger, an older light-cruiser which was destroyed by two mysterious vessels in 2266. McAfee is credited with saving her crew and driving off the attackers, but she loses her ship and goes through an inquest (which clears her of blame). In 2268, she is languishing as in instructor of advanced tactics at the Academy until a series of events change her destiny and place her in the center-seat of a starship.

It is good to see this story again is right.  I liked the interaction between Grace and her father, and it does give us some insight into her.  I'm really looking forward to seeing what comes next.

I could really feel for Grace now knowing her connection to Captain Harris, it made a great way for the reader to care about not only her, but Harris as well.  I could almost hear Shatner's voice as I read Kirk's lines especially and the end of the chapter.

I loved Grace's last line at the end.  She was very professional, and yet enthusiastic at the same time.  I liked your explaination of the sexism in Starfleet during the TOS era, and it was nice to see Nogura start to change that from within.

Good banter between Collins and McAfee.  You've definately set up a mystery with Espinoza.  I'm curious where he came from?  It's definately enough to keep mre reading.  Good work!

Author's Response: Mick - thank you for your kind comments! More coming very soon.

You showed a lot of emotion in such a short time.  I could totally hear Riker's voice saying what you had written.  Good job capturing the character.

Author's Response: Thanks Mick. I tried very much to keep Riker in-character. He's so much easier to write. Deanna on the other hand, I couldn't write her correctly and in-character even if I tried. She's a very complicated character to write. I'm glad you like this.

I have to say I really enjoyed this one.  Truly a great setup for Sloane & Cochrane.  You have a good premise here.  I cheered at the revelation of Cochrane.  WEll done.

Author's Response: Thanks very much Mick. I enjoyed writing them and happy everyone seems to have liked my portrayal. We'll see tomorrow if people like how I handle Archer as much... :)

I just finished watching Enterprise, and you got Archer's voice down.  Good job!  Looking forward to more.

Author's Response: Thanks Mick! As I said to RogueJawa, I was quite worried about my appropriation of Archer's voice, so cool to know that you feel I got it. More coming soon!

Oh, the Pike era, something we don't see very often.  Loved this scene.  I was able to hear the character's voices as I read it.  You put Spock into what had to be an uncomfortable situation for him, and it worked veyr well.

Author's Response: Indeed, not a period or a character we see much of. This seemed like a good opportunity. I'm glad you felt I did a good job capturing the characters voices. Thanks for the comment!

The Borg welcomed into the fold, not a comforting thought.  Still though, I thought Data and Worf were both very well written, and harkened back to yesterday's entry even.  Well done.

Author's Response: Glad you liked it Mick. The Borg who are being welcomed are no longer the Borg we love to fear, hopefully I'll be able to develop this a little more in the coming weeks or months. Thanks again.

I also love the born to run, born to fly lines.  I've never read any RRG stories before either, but I will now.

Do! Do read them. Shameless plug over. And you'll see that Tabatha certainly ends up running and flying by the seat of her pants more often than not.
