I've been writing Star Trek: The Next Generation fanfics since 2000. Since I was 14. In middle school, Next Generation books were all I read. I've never posted my early works. Too Mary-Suish. I feel that as a writer, I've grown in the last 14 years.

TNG is my focus of my fanfics, with Riker and Troi being the center of all the action. I love reading Voyager fanfics as well. Paris and Torres were also my main focus for Voyager fanfiction in middle school. But I won't post those here either.

I've got the hugest crush on Riker. *Heh, since I was 14 ironically.* What can I say? The man is beautiful.

I found this story very intriguing. Kirk moving through different time periods looking for his wife but ending up in a mental institution. I felt his confusion all throughout the story and why the doctors didn’t believe him. They thought he was crazy. I don’t think I’d want to leave the Nexus either if I could be with someone or something that had been long gone. I like how he spoke of Spock and Picard. I think you should expand this, it seems like there could be more you could add to this. Wonderfully haunting, and good writing. Thanks for sharing.

Good way to start your series Gibraltar. Opening with Point Station Epsilon in the Allied-Occupied Cardassian Territory was pure genius. I really liked how you described the station Epsilon in great detail, telling how it wasn’t the best built station and that it wasn’t completely planned out like the other better built stations by the Starfleet Corps of Engineers. Then you go on to describe the planet of Lakesh. How it was attacked and that the crew was helping with water purification. This story fascinates me. Now I’m ready to move onto chapter 2 to see what happens next. I cannot wait to see where you take this and how it ends. Thanks for sharing this and keep writing.

Kestrel - Hunting Grounds by Miranda Fave    Rated: T    Liked  Reviews (262
Summary: Past Featured Story

The USS Kestrel, an aging Miranda class, serving as part of the Border Service has the thankless task of patrolling some of the murkier corners of the Federation. As the seat of Federation power in a dangerous and wild region of space, the Kestrel acts to paraphrase her firebrand captain, Captain Gregory McGregor, as the rule and the law, the line in the sand, the first and last line of defense for the Federation.

"So we can't be calling in the cavalry at the drop of a hat. We are the cavalry. We stand the line, we duke it out, we shout them down, we clean their windscreens, and we set out the welcome mat. It's not all bad you know."

This is the first story featuring the ramshackle, rough and ready crew of the Kestrel. I'd call them an unorthodox crew but hey isn't every crew unorthodox in their own way!

Led by the acerbic, sarcastic, bombastic, over the top, pain-in-the-ass, coarse and unprofessional Captain Gregory McGregor. Just the type of behaviour to get stuff on the border done! There's no time for Jean-Luc's niceties here!

The Border Dogs might be seen as the ‘poor cousins' of the Fleet and the Miranda might be seen as the ‘Ford pick-up of Starfleet' but the Kestrel in the humble opinion of her Captain shows the Fleeters how to do things the proper way.

Well MF, I have to say I’m really enjoying this story and the awesomeness of it so far. I can see the character of Molly Cartwright and how stubborn she is. She seems to be a very strong character. Strong and self-assured. I liked how you set up the scene and beginning of the story here with an engaging cast of characters. I find it interesting how you chose to end this first chapter with Vardros and T-Hos breaking into a secure high security facility of Starbase 49 and that they have some sort of spy working for them aboard the Kestrel. What’s going to happen next I wonder? Again, great way to set up a wonderful read so far. The emotions of all the characters are very clear and it adds to the depth of this complex and engaging fic. The originality of it is amazing. I feel as if I’m watching an episode you created, and it were to be seen on screen. Now, onto the second chapter to see what’s next. I’m really enjoying this so far. Thanks for sharing this.

Seems that Cutler isn't too excited about being on a Miranda-class starship. I wonder what kind of adventures and new worlds they'll discover aboard the Kestrel? Another nicely written and engaging chapter. The more I read this fic, the more I’m finding your original characters fascinating. Each has their own distinct way of acting emotionally as well as physically. I like the descriptions of both Cutler and Jex. Jex seems like she appreciates older class starships. She takes in everything as if its new. She likes the idea of exploring things through ‘fresh eyes.’ I think Cutler just needs a chance to settle in on the Kestrel. He probably just feels a little uneasy being on an older class ship. I’m really enjoying reading this fic and I’m going to keep reading to see what kinds of adventures they go on. Thanks for another fine chapter, and now onto chapter 3 to see what happens next.

Summary: A brand new ship. A brand new crew. A brand new order.

It is 10 years since the end of the Dominion Occupation. The Alpha and Beta Quadrants are fractured, the powers of the former centuries broken and seemingly powerless. The United Federation of Planets has been destroyed, replaced by a much more fragile Federation of Allied Worlds. Yesterday’s friends have become today’s enemies, while yesterday’s enemies may yet become today’s friends.

Launched into this volatile new order, the USS Redemption is the flagship of a new age. Captained by a half-human, half-Romulan former freedom fighter, the Redemption is manned by the best crew that Starfleet can assemble, in a ship that though a shadow of former glories has the most advanced technology available.

But when the Laurentine Hegemony, a former ally who may yet become the Federation’s latest enemy, offers an olive branch of peace, the Redemption is sent to conduct negotiations for a possible treaty of cooperation. Even as the first few steps towards an understanding are taken, though, a new enemy appears on the very edges of the galaxy, ready to launch a devastating attack...

Part Two of Star Trek: Tesseract

In 2378, the crew of the USS Voyager delivered a devastating blow to the Borg Collective when they destroyed a key transwarp hub to the Alpha Quadrant, and the Borg unicomplex.  They hoped it would be the end of the Borg threat.  They were wrong.

Nearly eight years later, the crew of the USS Tesseract -- the first official Starfleet mission of exploration to the Delta Quadrant – has found a quadrant in ruins, torn apart by the Collective and a new, more terrifying kind of Borg -- the Borg Resistance.  They are free of the Collective, free of established protocols, without cohesion or unity, and operating under cloak.  Their new superweapon could put an end to warp society as the galaxy has known it – but it’s also the only thing standing between the Borg Collective and its ultimate goal of assimilating or destroying the entire United Federation of Planets.

Now, while the Federation and its tenuous allies prepare for a full-scale Borg invasion, the Tesseract crew -- alone in the Delta Quadrant -- must find a way to finish what Voyager started, and one young ex-Borg Starfleet officer must decide whether to embrace his destiny ... or boldly defy it.

I found this very interesting to read and engaging. Interesting that you took this story in the POV of a Romulan farmer. I could see through his eyes the small field he was harvesting with an old milling machine he’d rigged with his old engines. I could imagine a 203 old Romulan getting the same aches and pains a human would at 70 or 80 now. What I found even more interesting was the fact that there was a cloaked Starfleet vessel in the man’s old barn. How did it get there and why? I found myself asking these questions ask I was reading this. I find this story to be very enlightening so far. I really do hope you continue this. I would really like to know what happens next. So did the Romulan Scount ship destroy the Starfleet vessel? Or is it still there and the barn got destroyed? Either way, I want to see how Starfleet handles this. Thanks for sharing.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this tale. I found it engaging and all your original characters are fascinating. Chay and Jacobs banter is funny. That was priceless for Chay to make up a story about the captain’s frying pan. Just to scare new recruits. I loved how the captain and Jacobs had a conversation about the real reason why the frying pan is in her ready room. Her grandmother gave her the frying pan. I thought that was a nice touch. It was actually a dirty trick to have Jacobs say that the frying pan was still evil, once learning the real story behind it. I guess it was just to get back at Chay for saying that. Again, I really enjoyed reading this, it was funny and a great read. You kept my interest throughout the entire fic. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to more of this in the future.

Bravo Mac! This was a wonderfully written piece full of raw emotions. I actually felt like I was there with Beverly, seeing her go through her own private grief on the anniversary of Jack’s death. I felt like I was seeing through her eyes, going what she was going through. The pain she has to go through every year mourning the loss of her husband as if it had just happened yesterday is very real. Loss is something that everyone deals with at various levels. Beverly is one of those people that would rather keep to her own thoughts when grieving. That is clearly stated throughout this whole story. I applaud you for writing this piece. Emotional and riveting. Thanks for sharing. :)

Author's Response: You do me a great disservice and you're most kind :) It was a tough one to write but somehow it came together. I always figured deep down, what you never saw on screen, was this pain. I also figure she's a strong character in her own right or she wouldn't be CMO of the biggest ship. But it worked. :)

Jes, you’ve written a wonderful story. I’ve just spent the last forty minutes reading over every detail of your fic. Time-travel fics can often be tricky. But I applaud you for the way you handled this storyline. It must’ve seemed odd for Geordi and Wesley to see all the different ways of living in the past. It was nice to see them get to know Rosemary, and that they got to see a baseball game. I could really picture every scene and emotion as if it were an actual episode on tv. Thanks for such a great story, and I hope you do more time-travel fanfics in the future. Thanks for sharing jes. It was a well-written fanfic and I enjoyed every bit of it.

What an interesting look into the friendship between Martin and Lily. They seem like they could be best friends. It was nice to see snippets of their long friendship together, and the good times they had on their first assignment aboard the Tabard. It was a nice gesture for Martin to get Lily her favorite chocolates he'd gotten her while they served together previously just 30 years prior. This piece to me comes across as a humor/hurt/comfort piece, and put a smile on my face. Because everyone needs a friend when they are going through rough times.

Mistral, I must say this is a wonderful story you’ve woven together. I thought that Rick’s emotions were really the highlight of this fic. I could see myself in the debris with him as the ship overhead exploded into millions of pieces. I could see the Klingon Cruiser as you described it, crashing down to the planet. I can clearly see his dislike towards the Klingons. His emotions are running very high since he thinks its the last moments of his life. My question is: Did he live? Or did he pass away? I’ve found this story a very good read and everything came together so well. Gut-wrenching but again wonderfully haunting story I could really feel like I was there. Thanks for sharing this.

WOW Mac. I’ve got to say, another powerful piece you’ve got here. Gary’s rough childhood definitely shaped the man he is today. I can tell when his innocence is lost when he first loses his sister Charlotte to her jumping into the river and then losing his mother not long afterwards from heart failure. He considered these two women to be his only tether to the last of his innocence. A haunting piece that really shows that not everything in life is rosy but at least Gary got into a job helping people. I can understand his anger and grief at not being able to save his sister. Thanks for sharing this. As usual, it was fairly easy to get into the head of the character. Great job.

Author's Response: Most kind, most kind. This Gary's childhood I imagine might be like the regular one's but this one shaped what happened to come. Him ending up as a lifeguard. Not everything in Trek can be happy families and for Mitch, this was not. I did want to have his sister come back somehow but it wouldn't work :)

Wow. You put so much into this, it was very hard to read. I enjoyed the tragic emotion you injected into this fic. Stirringly haunting piece. Thanks for sharing this and I look forward to reading your Tarsus novel when you finish writing it. Wonderful add-on. Keep writing.

Author's Response:

This was as hard to write as it was to read.  What happened on Tarsus was truly tragic and horrific.  I was trying to capture that surreal instant of comprehension when the survivors first realized what was going on.  Hoping to get more done on the novel for unblock the block.  Thanks for the vote of confidence. :D

Ah, nothing like witnessing the commision of a brand new starship. And a consitution class nonetheless. I can clearly see the crew assembled and awaiting to hear the commencement speech. I always like stories that unveil new class starships. It gives us a look into the newest technology and what the ship is capable of. The crew no doubt will have many adventures aboard the USS Constitution. I look forward to seeing where this goes. Thanks for sharing.

Author's Response:

Thank you for the review.  What was happening here was the change of command ceremony as an old ship was heading out for her final mission.  Thanks for reading.
