Bio: I'm 25, I'm a 3rd year university student, a beginning bass-payer, and a lover of Romulans. Specifically, TNG era Romulans. Even more specifically, Tomalak. I don't know what it is about him that fascinates me, but I love him and I love writing him because in my mind he is both a powerful telepath and a snarky asshole, and uses both powers to his advantage.

Or maybe I'm just a fangirl of Andreas Katsulas. I also love the heck out of G'Kar, too.

I've been writing Star Trek fanfiction off and on since I was 10, and one thing always remains the same: I hate each and every word that I write. I consider every one of my fics to be pure garbage. Why I post them on here, I have no idea, other than I may be a masochist. I am prone to deleting them in fits of crippling self-doubt

Yay, Tomalak!! Except he's being a jerk. Oh well XD.

I've never seen his voice described as being high, before. I always thought he had a rather deep voice, myself...especially in "Future Imperfect" when he growls "We're wasting time..."

...

*ahem* Right, back to the story.

Can I ask why you gave him a Northern accent? Or was that just completely random? I'm a bit of an accent geek. :D

Author's Response:

Can you honestly say you're surprised he's being a jerk? X)

I actually never did see any of the episodes with Tomalak in them (though I always mean to, they're never on). So I based my description of his voice off of books (I do believe one mentioned him having a high voice), and what I pictured myself. As for the Northen accent... It was random, but also wasn't really. I always thought of the North as being where the biggest cities of Romulus being, and Tomalak struck me as a city-slicker, arasticratic sort of soldier.

Awww. The ending made me smile :)

I'll admit to not knowing a lot about the Cardassians (I never saw much of DS9) but it really speaks to the universal nature of the premise of this story, that you don't have to. Whether Cardassian, or human, the safety of your child is the forethought in any parent's mind.

I loved the suspense and building tension, and I could practically feel the frustration with the medic who only wanted to push his ways onto them. Who hasn't experienced a doctor who won't listen to them at some point? I guess that's pretty universal too.

Really, really good, and I loved your characters. I will have to check out more stories about them!

Author's Response:

Some things are universal and among two races that care for family, worry for their loves one belongs to that group of universal matters.

I'm glad you liked the story :) If you really want to read more about them, especially how a human ended up among Cardassians, there is a story on the archive here that tells everything from the beginning, Among the Dragons.

Thanks for reading :)

Mmm, sexy :). Like I said on LJ, I'd never thought of this pairing before, but now it intrigues me. I'd love to see more of it, not so much PWP (although that's always good XD) but more like...how they get to that point, and stuff like that. Especially would love to hear Picard's thoughts on the matter, as he realizes he's into Riker!

Author's Response: Thank you very much! Yes, this story really is just a little PWP something I threw together when I was having a naughty day, lol. It's not meant to have a serious plot around itself. But if you want more detailed Picard/Riker, check out my other story here called "Private Emotions". :)

Very good story, I'm really enjoying it :)
(And I'm really sorry I haven't gotten to it earlier!)

Author's Response: We might, if your idea is that Jean-Luc and he were more than just best buddies. ;-) It all makes so much sense in a Brokeback Mountain way, lol. I'm glad you're enjoying the story so far! :) I wish I could update it more frequently, but, alas, I lack the time...

LOVE! I love anything involving telepathy/empathy, and telepathic masturbation is super hot. Plus the whole forbidden aspect of it....love. Just love. :3

Author's Response: Thank you very much! I wrote this particular ficlet at work because the sudden urge to write naughty Picard/Troi was too great to ignore. ;-) A writer has to write when inspiration strikes, I guess. And yes, I've always loved the Picard/Troi dynamic because she is basically the only one aboard the ship who knows about Jean-Luc's true emotional state - something that can be used perfectly for naughty ficlets.

‘The silence between us is deafening.  Not the silence without, for there is none – we engage in the same things we always have; on the surface we interact with one another as usual, as the crew expects us to, and all would seem normal to the casual observer – but the silence within is all encompassing and eclipses everything else.’

This was lovely :). I like the idea that Kirk and Spock have a mental bond, because it works just so perfectly. Not even as a slash thing (tbh I've never liked the K/S ship, I know, blasphemy!), but as an example of a Perfect Friendship. I actually groaned aloud a little when Spock cut off the bond, but it makes such perfect sense that he would do that, and I think having him do anything else would take him completely out of character. So bittersweet...

Author's Response:

Thank you. :) And I believe we’re on the same page concerning K/S slash.  Sometimes I feel like I’m the lone hold-out against this ship. ;)  I have always maintained that the ties that bind them, one to the other, are utterly transcendent of the merely physical.  For me, it goes way beyond something as simple and mundane as that.  This bond I envision between them is brother-to-brother, not lover-to-lover. ;)

This may be bittersweet, but leave it to McCoy to finally get the two knuckleheads to talk to one another about it in my story ‘Learning Curve.’  It makes up for all the hurt and misunderstandings between them in this piece. :)

This was absolutely haunting, and I'm glad to have read it. I always that it was ridiculous the way that the TNG writers completely glossed over Jack's death and what it meant to Beverly, in favour of the romantic tension between her and Picard. True, I know that it was supposed to have happened many years earlier, but the fact that she was...how do you say...so close with the man who got her husband killed always seemed odd to me. I think this should have been part of an episode. To see something like this would definitely have made her a better, more rounded character.

Author's Response: firstly, thanks for reviewing and secondly quite agree with your comments overall. I mean alright when I started off it was a crush on Beverly when I was a kid but the writers never spent time on her. I think Memory Alpha have a note on that about how little there is to her character notes. Then they focus on her and Picard which never washed with me, as you say the man who got Jack killed however accidental...And yet, and yet...I always feel that what she felt for Jack would have stayed around for years rather than just ignored bar the odd moment. And if that's worse look at what they did to her in the movies :)

Ahaha...Guinan and her rifle. I never knew what to make of her on the actual show, but I really like her here. Can't wait for the next part!

Author's Response: Guinan is one of my favorite characters to involve, so, I was quite thrilled when Alex "told" me that he wanted to be a bartender since it meant for Guinan to show up. Hehe. She is also quite hard to write since you never know what exactly she's up to. I'm glad you liked this latest part! :) Thanks for the feedback!

And we have first contact!

Alex seems pretty confident, which is good. I doubt Picard would be very interested in someone who turns into babbling fool around him! I see good things coming for Alex ;)

Author's Response: Agreed. Jean-Luc would dismiss poor Alex as a simple fanboy if he were unable to form a coherent sentence in his presence. A little nervousness was to be expected, though, it doesn't happen every day that you come this close to a man you've admired from afar for quite a while. XD Haha yes. This was First Contact. Indeed. This is wonderful! I don't know anything about baseball, but I followed it completely. Wesley is actually being not annoying, and who could guess, he's actually pretty good when he's not being all boy genius. I feel bad for Geordi - just when he finally gets the girl, he has to leave her (okay well...that happens as usual...). Am I correct in thinking that this is same Rosemary Parker that later will not give up her seat on the bus? :D

Author's Response:

Oh, thank you! I wanted it to be a story that would be accessible to all.

I did feel badly that I had to break up Geordi and Rosemary. She isn't meant to be Rosa Parks - the names are just similar - but she is meant to evoke the time and people's values and beliefs. Wes and Geordi can't influence this time *too* much. But maybe they made her a bit more assertive, where she might have an idea that she can have a future that isn't just being Mrs. someone-or-other who only went to secretarial school so that she could be married off.

And Wesley - no one ever seems to write him older. It just seems that it's accepted, hook, line and sinker, that he would be with The Traveler forever (I know a lot of people despise this rather Mary Sue-ish character), but I figured, eventually, wouldn't he miss being around people?

Awww :3. I love the Q/Picard dynamic. Such a heartbreaking story! You can tell that Q really does care for Jean-Luc. Funny how, as an omnipotent being, he can only care for Picard in his own way, as opposed to a mortal, who is free to love with no restrictions.
That is some awesome fanart too. Really fits the piece.

Author's Response: Thank you! I struggled with this story for ages, actually. I found the artwork and had this idea of Q witnessing Jean-Luc's assimilation but being powerless to prevent it. It took me months to form a story out of this because the entire issue is so incredibly complex and hard for me to write because it's such an emotional thing for me to write about bad things that happened to Jean-Luc. I'm thrilled that you liked it, though! :)

D'awwww. I love stories where Picard is able to relax and have a friend. (That's where I'm going with my story 'Adrift'...slowly. V. slowly...). Even if the friend is only a holodeck creation, it's still a friend! (As long as he doesn't go all weird, like Barclay in that S3 ep...)

Author's Response: Nah, Jean-Luc's not someone who spends too much time on the holodeck - no worries! (He's way too busy with commanding the ship, lol.) And yes, I enjoy writing the REAL Jean-Luc instead of the always-dignified Starfleet captain. Thanks for the review! :)
