Regardless of the fact this story features Spock, this is a vivid and tightly written horror scene of a crash. You paint a clear picture of the havoc and devastation to be found. Sensations of noise, smell, heat and the visual horrors to be found all envelope the reader as they threaten to overwhelm our hero. Especially, so when our hero Spock can be disorientated and given pause by what he finds. But in true Vulcan style, and Starfleet officer too, he overcomes any difficulties, any sensations the scen causes to do his duty and to carry it out with logic of course.
The relationship between Spock and Wilson is interesting to say the least and is a lesson in and of itself for Spock and lays foundations for Spock's later friendship with Kirk and McCoy. Love too the line: They were no longer an annoyed human and an annoying Vulcan. It sums up things so neatly between the pair and their calling as Starfleet officers.
Great too, is Spock's approach. Searching meticulously the ruined hulk of the crashed shuttle, the desire to correct the pilot in the first instance, the dire calculations as to the fate of the survivors. Neato.
Author's Response: LOL. Looks like someone's determined to win the new hunt. ;-) Thank you, I appreciate you taking time to read and leave a comment. This story was a bit horrific for me, too, but that was only until I figured why I was writing it. And then, it all started to make sense. ;-) Thanks again.
