Okay, Eddie and Jex? More awesome than Holmes and Watson any day. I love how sharp and quick they both are in putting it together. Bing bang boom, and they know the score. Then you have Becca and Berkley, and lo and behold, at least one more competant individual!

Seriously, Kev, you're making the pros look bad and I love it. However, you are also mowing people down left and right. I don't remember if Berkley lives or not, but I hope he does.

Ah, Gardener. I love a good grouch and I love a good grouch who knows he’s a grouch. Gardener knows this and he’s absolutely gonna make sure everyone else knows it. The interactions with Jex and the way the two of them are honest with one another, going back and forth, are really nice. He’s not gonna baby her and she doesn’t want to hear any tirades. They came to an agreement.

But the ship is in peril and they notice this as they head to the docking port. Both their observation skills are hard at work and though Gardener does offer a bit of scolding on his part for her missing the scorched panel. But Jex steps up and saves his tail when weapons fire comes down. They’re gonna sit there and do what engineers do best: work to help the crew.

Becca and Berkley manage to get on the scene as the alert sounds and Becca’s superior security skills manage to sniff out Vardros … but man, he’s not gonna make it easy. He knocks Berkley out with a phaser and now it’s up to Becca to stop him. Is she up to the task?

This was a well portrayed and action-y chapter that was enjoyable from start to finish.

Guh. Berkley was a serious asshat. People like that get people killed. Worst thing in the world is to be in a fubared situation with an idiot for your backup. I empathize with Becca a lot in that. Hopefully she doesn't have a glass jaw!

I also like the interactions between Jex and Gardner. I bet he's not used to dealing with someone as self assured as a joined Trill. Lots of action in this chapter, very tense. I'm not laying bets on who'll make it out alive and who won't.

Author's Response:

Berkley represents a lot of those paper trained officers with no real idea as to how things really work. I like that you like the Jex and Gardner interactions. What you say is pretty spot on. Poor Gardner probably has enough issues to contend with than such an assured person as Jex working under him. But then again, I think he'd prefer her to the likes of Berkley any day!

Whoa, whoa! Can't decide if it's a perfect thriller or a cool action movie. I mean story. LOL. It's just that visualization comes so easily while reading this.

Jex seems to be my favorite for the moment. I wonder what comes next...;-)

Author's Response:

I love following how the characters go up and down in your estimation Anna. It's a read in tiself for me. LOL. Love it. And love the reviews. Thanks millions! Especially when you say nice things like the bisualisation comes easy. It comes easy to me too but that's cos it is in my head and I desperately hope it gets across in some fashion to the readers. So thanks very much for words that are way too kind.

Shoulda listened to Becca there! I like your chief, too; canny fellow. Jex, of course, is awesome.

Author's Response:

The NCOs always tend to know what's best but sadly officers sometimes think otherwise. Tut tut. As for Gardner, I figured he had to suss things from a technical point of view as opposed to a tactical. More in keeping with his gritty blue collar image. And of course Jex is awesome! Glad you think so. Have a fond spot for her. But that doesn't necessarilly mean she's gonna get away with things!
