Man, you set us up and knock us down, what with making two instantly likable guys and then brutally slaughtering them. I mean, as writing goes it happens to be a masterful stroke -- rarely do we get to know and like, even briefly, Dead Redshirts Walking.

So you take the trope and turn it on its ear and get us to like them and then with almost casual brutality, you kill them off. The more I read this story over again, the more it seems like a delightful flame mail to canon Trek producers. Or perhaps a giant middle finger. Either way it remains wonderfully subversive stuff.

Boy, the Fien are some bad, bad people. I feel sorry for Chan and his bud. What was starting off as a chapter exploring two good NCO buddies, ended with both guys dead in quite shocking and sad manners. The boarding party managed to secure things and this is definitely not a prank from McGregor, but it is about McGregor. The guys beaming on there have one objective and one objective alone and that’s to cause McGregor and his crew a lot of pain. A hell of a lot of pain.

Starfleet security has been befuddled by these villains, who have sneaked onto the ship in a rather nice ploy. Poor Noah and Harris though … they are in a world of trouble. Noah, the fresh faced ensign, now finds himself in a big time situation and he got slapped around like nothing else. The Orion is not a nice character and Harris’ past as a possible person with Orion blood might play here.

My concern is now about what’s going to happen to the rest of the crew. With this poison now in play, about to be used to fry the insides of the crew, I can’t help but imagine there’s going to be some serious havoc in store. Well done in changing the stakes and adding in a different kind of excitement to this story.

Ouch. Nothing ever goes well when it involves a wronged Orion. Noah's getting a real up close and personal intro to what Border Patrol is all about. And as far as the toxin goes? Eww! and Guh! Awesome chapter!

Author's Response:

Thanks very much. Yes Noah is getting to learn things the hard way.

Whoa ...suddenly things kick off.

A hideous bunch of cold hearted killers, no wonder why they're the most wanted in the Federation.

Great stuff.

Author's Response:

They have a bit of a mean streak for sure. If you're going to be bad you should at least be bad ass about it. No?

Thank you very much for the review. Keep enjoying.

Whoa. So the conversation of the security guards lulled me completely, and their swift end was like a kick in the gut. Nice move! Writing-wise I mean. LOL.

This is getting gritty. :;shivers:: Somehow, I don't sympathize with Harris very much, but Noah is another matter. I hope he'll make it through in one piece. ::muses::

Author's Response:

Cool thanks Anna. Kinda wanted their end to be a gut punch to get across the violence of the attack and the intent of the attackers. So waaaaaaaaaaaaay pleased that you liked. And yes, it takes a gritty turn here for a bit. Heehee.

Glad you're rooting for Noah, because somebody needs to ;)

Wow, damn. McGregor sure knows how to make some truly nasty enemies, doesn't he? Good pacing, if not horribly brutal stuff. And you think my mirror arc is bad!

Author's Response:

Your mirror stuff is bad! Glad you think T'Hos is nasty. Sometime's it's hard to get a bad guy to come off ok.
