Aw! Check out McGregor being all human. The Event intrigues me thoroughly. Obviously. Sebastian brings out his asshole here quite well and coldly. You string us, your loving readers, along like it's an opera or a seriel. Which is to say that you're quite good at building intrigue.

There are a bunch of things I love about this bit. Eddie stiffing down food, then back to work. And tugging everyone else out piece by piece. Stan and his hinted bits of backstory.

And there with Monroe just aboard, too. Excellent.

Oh, man, what a party that was! So many things going on in this chapter, let me see what I can drum up here as far as which ones stood out to me: firstly, the interplay between Jex and Cutler. These two you can tell are friends and fast ones at that, with the back and forth good natured banter between them privately and in the company of superior officers.

Molly and Stan show up here and are an absolute blast as they sit there and exchange old tales with the new recruits. You can tell how friendly they are to the new crew and how they’re trying to be as welcoming as possible. The origins of Stan, the references to the mysterious “Event” where McGregor came from 60 years before (say what?!!) were well done. Stan is an enjoyable character, as always, asking the questions we of course want to know with as little tact as possible.

Then we have Becca and Sebastian, oh my the fireworks between these two are gonna be intense in the future. The showdown was well done between the, Sebastian getting the better of Becca (and what a mouth young sir) while Becca’s anger clearly got the better of her.

A rare moment of seriousness for McGregor (and that’s when you know things are serious) a stern talking to helped calm her tail down but I feel she’s gonna push the issue sooner rather than later.

A fun party and one I enjoyed reading about.

I'm really intrigued by Stanley. I'm a sucker for a character with a mysterious past. I hope that in time we see more of this and discover more, too.

I also like your handling of Trill. As I mentioned in another review, it was a subject they never covered well in the series. The party was a good way to get to meet a lot of characters in a fairly neutral setting before things heat up. Well done!

Author's Response:

Thank you. Hopefully the Trill treatment will bear fruit, these first parts with Jex were easier than some that come later. And have to show the crew letting their hair down before things go a little awry.

And yes Stanley has a very mysterious past. We will see more - but how much more you wil  have to read on to find out ....

Well, that chapter was a maelstrom! Assuming I spelled that right. Well, anyway. Is it bad of me that my sympathies are with Templar so far? And the one of a kind alien, now, that's really twisting the intrigue!

Author's Response:

Heck no, sympathise with him by all means. Depends of course on where his story goes as to whether that was the right choice to make or not. ;)

As for 'our one of a kind' Stan the Man, I'm glad you're liking the mystery.

I have a totally new appreciation for Stanley now. Like, I really adore him. But all of your characters are good; Jex is very engaging, and the back-and-forth here was a great read.

Author's Response:

Thanks! To be honest Rob's made me fall in love with Stanley even more. Stanley is a great comic foil and someone to bounce off in great ways. He can do anything. So far we've not seen too much from him, but do expect more; that's for sure
