Wow. o.O I am not sure there is any coming back from this one. Damn, T'Vel. Damn, Ronak. The dysfunction here is startling. The propensity of people serving on the Kestrel towards winging drinkware at walls and cutting people is almost a tradition at this point. But heavens, this was disturbing to read. That a mother could do that to a son, or a son could do that to a mother. I mean, obviously I know it's possible, but it's still visceral reading, and more than a little unnerving.

The bits of backstory reveal are quite a tease to the reader, too. I know more than most thanks to the first RR, but even then, it grips and compels.

Oh, T’Vel. So broken. So barely held together and constantly in a state of suffering thanks to her memories of what happened with Ronak’s father, and Ronak’s own poking and prodding. He’s a little prick and I feel some sympathy for him but I can’t help but feel that whatever punishment is dished out at him, is completely deserved. He’s a prick, a little annoying prick and when T’Vel went and slapped him, I totally was cool with that. When he started talking trash about how she LIKED being violated, I was totally cool with her choking the life out of him. She couldn’t kill him but getting him as close to death as he was, I hope shows him how serious she is about that.

And after he stumbles out, tail between his legs, she breaks down. Rage. Sadness. Tears. All of it an explosion of emotions and by far the most emotional we see Vulcans get. It reminded me a lot of NuSpock chocking the life out of NuKirk. T’Vel, at the end, is begging and pleading to logic like it’s a god. It’s not, sadly, and she’s trying to ward off that really dark voice … the crazy voice. The one that wants to hurt and hurt a lot of people.

She manages to do it this time. Will she be able to do it next time?

Bloody hell :O

No wonder they're both so messed up in the mind. Very powerful, very dark and very realistic Miranda.

Author's Response:

Thank you Starfire. Yes, some dark stuff when it comes to these two and I am so chuffed you found it to be dark, powerful and realistic. Thank ye very much.

Really, really powerful chapter. I suspected a form of mental illness, and I wondered if she had been raped. For all the humor and levity, this story has quite a few dark back corners. I actually hate that I'm caught up, because it means now I have to wait for more. I truly think this was the best chapter yet. I can't praise it highly enough.

Author's Response:

Wow. Thanks. This chapter meant a lot to me but it had caused me a massive headache. I wasn't able to write it for a long time as I had it in my head but couldn't get it on paper. I had to try and judge it right. Such a situation can quickly become melodramatic and then the complication of writing for Vulcans even two apparently emotional Vulcans as T'Vel and Ronak made it all the harder to judge. But one afternoon it just poured out and I'm so delighted it works for you. Really had been dubious about it but kes7 offere some great reassurance on that front and I'm so happy you think it played well. Thanks for the praise and the stars. *blush* Thanks even more so for reading and catching up. It makes it all worthwhile to see readers following the story.
