I say "I love" a lot. Must try to come up with different words. Except, none come to mind.
McGregor is awesome here. Bold and snarly and protective of ship and crew. That he notes the loss and says their names and drives that point home elevates him even further in my esteemed estimation. All at once you have the madcap front. But also the man who writes home to grieving families.
Molly is particularly good here. Sly and well spoken and the perfect foil to get the ship -- and by proxy Captain -- cared for.

Well, McGregor did in fact let the commodore have it and there were a few characters in my head who were more than happy to see a higher ranked official get slapped down hard (most of them captains). No doubt Georgetown isn’t used to this being in charge thing because most admirals who would have been addressed like that would have stripped down the captain doing to a lowly ensign without a second thought. You don’t get away with that in the service often and McGregor did get away with it, simply because he’s an eccentric Ahole but a fun one.
Molly played her role well here as the “good cop” or “sane cop” in this scenario, being as diplomatic as possible while also getting what McGregor was aiming for: his ship to be bumped up to the top of the repairs list and them getting underway ASAP to hunt T’Hos down and gut him like the pig he is. I’m sure McGregor would like to father her children, but Molly is far too much a lady for that.
Georgetown is just a nice guy with no backbone and McGregor and Molly had their way with him. There needs to be more higher ranking officials like that so captains don’t have to be all frustrated with the higher ups all the time. ;)

I love Molly Cartwright. She clearly knows how to get what she wants without unduly stepping on too many toes. And she puts McGregor in his place with effortless ease. I think she's becoming my favorite character in this so far.
Yeah I just love Molly myself. She's tough but not hard as nails. She comes across as the good guy when stood next to McGregor but I wouldn't want to cross her. And certainly, she seems like she's the only one able to keep McGregor in check.

Yay Molly! That woman knows her shit, not to mention her captain. Very quick thinking at that. Not to mention manners. :D The threat of McGregor hanging around for months was a master's touch. LOL.
Yay Molly, I ful-heartedly concur. After these years, she knows her captain alright. To full eye-rolling hilt knows him! But yeah, using McGregor hanging around as a threat would be the first thing to try and motivate a person like the commodore.

I actually really liked McGregor's blowup about the death of his two security guys; makes him seem far less of an Ahab than originally suspected. Molly was a very adept negotiator, too. Might wanna go through and run a spell-check; there are a few typos. And you could use a couple more commas. ;-) But otherwise, a good chapter!
Thanks Steff for the word up. I'll go through and check it out. Pesky commas. Honestly I put them there but then ran away! Tis true!
McGregor might be something of an Ahab, but part of his obsession is his ship and crew. So anyone or anything that brings harm to them, is going to suffer the consequences. Which means with dead crew at tthe hands of T'Hos Likk, T'Hos is going to be hunted down by McGregor. At that point we have to consider just what degree he becomes Ahab like in his pursuit.
And as XO to McGregor, one would need to be an adept negotiator! Poor Molly. How she doesn't slap the beard off of his face is a wonder?
