What an interesting look into the friendship between Martin and Lily. They seem like they could be best friends. It was nice to see snippets of their long friendship together, and the good times they had on their first assignment aboard the Tabard. It was a nice gesture for Martin to get Lily her favorite chocolates he'd gotten her while they served together previously just 30 years prior. This piece to me comes across as a humor/hurt/comfort piece, and put a smile on my face. Because everyone needs a friend when they are going through rough times.

Thanks for sharing this and for the uplifting ending.

Author's Response: I'm Glad you enjoy this little story and yes you can see what Martin and lily seem to be missing, how much they mean to each other. Yes I hope to be showing more of this pair at some point in the future. Thanks for commenting.

Wow, this is a very bittersweet story of friendship and regret.  I'm curious about what happened; I'll have to read the other story to find out.

Author's Response: Thank you, I hope you enjoy the earlier story.

Love, love, love this. I'm shipping these two, hard. I do so appreciate a good friendship that wants to turn into a potential romance (as you well know). The interactions here felt very real, the constant second guessing of Martin was spot-on (been there, done that, very recently) and the way he goes to bat for her as a friend is great to see.

More of them, I say, more! :)

Author's Response: Thank you trekfan. I'm sure we see more of them both again. Thanks for the encouragement.

I enjoyed this glimpse into your world, and seeing this side of Lily. I think we can all identify with the feeling that the whole universe is stacked against us, and there's no way out. Sometimes, we all need a friend to pull us up from those depths again.

The interaction of the two characters rings very true to me. I look forward to getting to know them better. ;-)

Author's Response: Thanks for the review. Glad the interaction rings true for you. Yes I'm also looking forward to writing more from Lily and Martin in the future.

As I said before, I liked this piece a lot.  I was curious as to how Lily would handle the fallout from the Centauran incident.  Obviously she wasn't managing too well, but it looks like things will turn around thanks to a little help from her friends.

I liked the bit about the other admirals and some of her friends at Starfleet distancing themselves from her because they could see themselves making a similar mistake to the one she made - 'there but for the grace of God...' - and weren't sure how to handle the feeling, or the physical embodiment of what could so easily be their fate.  So true to human nature, and I loved that Martin pointed it out to her, and promised to help her through this dark time.  More of a friend to her than he realizes, or gives himself credit for.

And I'm all for the crazy earrings.  Like the quintessential 'ugly holiday sweater,' they help to mark the season, and bring smiles to the faces of everyone who sees them. :D

Author's Response: A big thank you Lil Black Dog. I'm glad this feel feels a truthful follow up to the Centauran Incident fail-out. :D

Oh! I got a feeling ....

Thank you so much for interweaving the unsufferable T'Bek into this story - I'm glad that it worked for you as a piece of what is becoming a great, detailed body of work.

I love Martin's hesitations, his worries about whether he's doing the right thing, and then his sadness at seeing Lily so distraught and so broken. Her living in Spartan quarters makes sense, that she would shunt aside her old things and think it was making a clean break of it but instead she was just collapsing in onto herself.

Well done!

Author's Response: Thank you Jespah.
